At least 64 people were killed in a police operation cracking down on the Red Command gang in the Brazilian city's north zone - the biggest and most lethal operation in the area's history.

Four law enforcement personnel were included in the fatalities during Operation Containment in the neighborhoods of AlemĂŁo and Penha, government representatives reported. In excess of 80 suspects were arrested.
