Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood. “The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the beginning of a new presidential term. “If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.” The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House. The pig, provided by a first responder, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently made “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection. A New Life Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement. “This swine clemency has become a cherished method to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message. “It represents the essence of Miami: joyful, varied, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Every time, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.” Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
